01 · YOUR FIRST CLASS

STARTING JIU JITSU.

No. Corvus has a six-week Intro to BJJ course specifically for adults starting from zero.
No. You begin at your current fitness level. The Intro course develops movement, coordination, and useful conditioning progressively.
Arrive a little early, check in, meet the instructor, and learn basic movements and positions with a partner. The Intro class uses instruction and cooperative drilling—not live sparring.
For the no-gi Intro course, wear a fitted athletic shirt or rashguard and shorts or leggings without zippers, pockets, or metal. Remove jewelry and trim your nails.
That is normal. You will start beside other beginners, and the course is designed to teach the movements before asking you to perform them under pressure.
No. There is no live sparring or resistance in the Intro to BJJ class. Sparring is introduced later, after you understand the positions and safety rules.
Plan to arrive 10–15 minutes early for your first visit so you can check in, sign any required waiver, change, and ask questions without rushing.
02 · SIX-WEEK ROADMAP

THE INTRO COURSE.

It is Corvus’s structured starting point for complete beginners. The course introduces safety, movement, positional understanding, basic control, escapes, and the connections between major positions.
The current Intro to BJJ class meets Monday and Wednesday from 5:45–6:30 PM at Corvus HQ. Check the current schedule before attending in case of a holiday or special event.
The Intro course is no-gi. Wear a rashguard or fitted athletic shirt with grappling shorts or leggings.
You will learn fundamental movements, safety habits, positional hierarchy, guard concepts, pins, escapes, controlled advancement, and how the pieces of jiu jitsu connect.
Tell the instructors. The curriculum is organized so they can identify what you missed and help you catch up through review, supporting material, or the next rotation.
You transition into the Fundamentals program with a working understanding of the basic positions, training expectations, and partner-safety rules.
Yes, especially after a long break or when someone wants a structured review. Experienced students may also be placed directly into an appropriate regular class.

04 · PROTECT YOURSELF AND YOUR PARTNERS

SAFETY, GEAR & HYGIENE.

Jiu jitsu is a contact sport, so risk cannot be eliminated. Corvus reduces avoidable risk through controlled instruction, appropriate partner matching, clear rules, and teaching students when to stop or tap.
Tapping is the universal signal to stop. You can tap your partner, yourself, or the mat, or say “tap.” The partner must release immediately.
For no-gi training, use a clean rashguard or fitted athletic shirt and shorts or leggings without zippers, exposed pockets, or metal. A mouthguard is optional but recommended for live training.
Wash every item after every class and do not leave damp gear sealed in a bag. Follow the garment instructions, dry it completely, and bring fresh clothing to every session.
Arrive clean, wear freshly washed gear, trim fingernails and toenails, cover minor cuts securely, remove jewelry, and wear shoes whenever you leave the mat area.
No. Do not train with a suspected contagious skin condition. Seek medical advice and return only when it is adequately treated, healed, and safe for training partners.
Do not train while contagious. For an injury or significant medical condition, tell the instructor, modify or stop as needed, and seek appropriate medical clearance when indicated.

07 · HOW CORVUS TRAINS

COACHING & PROGRESS.

Yes. The Intro course follows a six-week roadmap, and regular training uses organized positional themes and connected learning rather than unrelated techniques.
Corvus combines concise technical instruction with carefully designed positional practice. Students learn the important problems, decisions, and small battles inside each position.
Two consistent sessions per week is an excellent start. More is not always better if it prevents recovery or makes training difficult to sustain.
Most students notice better movement and positional recognition within weeks. Meaningful skill develops through consistent practice over months and years, not through a single technique or intense first week.
Promotions reflect sustained development, technical understanding, effective application, consistency, and conduct. They are coaching decisions rather than rewards for attending a fixed number of classes.
Yes. The goal is serious, organized learning without requiring every student to become a competitor. Recreational members and competitors share the same expectation of safe, respectful training.
